Let’s learn how to draw Onoda Sakamichi from Yowamushi Pedal today!
Sakamichi Onoda (小野田 坂道) is the main protagonist of the Yowamushi Pedal series. He starts off as a new first-year student at Sohoku High School who unexpectedly becomes a member of the Sohoku High Bicycle Club. He is also a climbing specialist and big otaku fan. His consuming interests, particularly in anime Love Hime, caused him to develop the strength needed to become a competitive cyclist. It was Onoda’s eagerness to obtain anime goods from Akihabara that drove him to save money on subway fare by biking to Akihabara for free.
Onoda is average height and has a relatively frail build but with comparatively well-developed leg muscles. His black hair is straight and somewhat spiky. In anime he has a round blue eyes, however in manga, he has been portrayed with brown eyes. His cycling jersey shirt feature the colors yellow, white and red in varying amounts. These colors also happen to be the ones used for the Sohoku Inter High team jerseys.
Onoda is quite shy and has a hard time speaking up for himself, also he’s easily embarrassed and flustered if complimented. He doesn’t have much confidence. He never had many friends he could truly share his interests with until he met the Sohoku cyclists team. His courage and abilities have been growing from there. He has a sense of what’s morally right and can’t stand when people look down on others or destroy the enjoyable atmosphere of cycling.
Thanks a lot to Jordan Fernemont for request. ^_^
Step 1
As always all the blue and green lines are just construction lines and will be erased later so do not push on your pencil too much ^_^ I will try to be super efficient with the text so will only describe steps that require some explanation.
Make sure to leave enough free space on paper for next steps. You can see how much space you will need from the size of the paper on this picture.

Step 3
Step 4
Step 5
Step 6
Step 7
Step 8
Step 9
Lighten all the construction lines by “stamping” the kneaded eraser on the paper. Make sure to refer to the picture bellow as you need to ink only some parts of the construction lines.
Step 10
Wait till the ink is nice and dry and erase all the construction lines.
Step 11
To add colors, make sure to sketch the color outlines with the right color or pencil first.
If your goal is to become a real Mangaka and design your own manga characters make sure to try to draw Onoda Sakamishi from memory several times. Always compare the drawing to the original and correct any mistakes you see. Do this till you are happy with the result. It doesn’t have to look exactly the same, don’t sweat the details. The point is that you get the main shapes right and that it looks good. This is the best way to build a huge library of manga shapes in your memory that you can use to draw and design your own manga characters ^_-.
Draw with passion! ^_^
