Let’s learn how to draw Tughril Mahmut from Shoukoku No Altair today!
Tughril Mahmut (犬鷲のマフムート将軍) is the main protagonist of the Altair: A Record of Battles series. He is known as a prodigy, being Turkiye’s youngest pasha in its history at 17 years old during the beginning of the story. The youngest member of the Divan, from a tribe of expert falconers. The death of his mother in the war with the Balt-Rhein Empire drove him to pass the army entrance test aged twelve, and seek continued peace for Ottoman.
Mahmut is a young beautiful man with a fair, small stature, beautiful enough to cross dress as a woman when situation demands so. He also has soft face features befitting his story heritage and innocence, with baby blue eyes, and a small nose. His neck-length golden blonde hair is curled up at the tips and frames his face. His bangs usually cover his left eye. He wears a white salvar (trousers) and white inner shirt with black collar, a red yelek (short robe) and a pair of red cedik (boots). Yelek and boots have circular golden linings on them. In formal occasions, he wears a red-white coloured turban.
Generally, Mahmut is a nice and smart person with bright mind and a strong sense of justice. However, he has strong impulsive tendencies, so much, that he seems naive at his first appearance. As the story progressed, he slowly began to gain wisdom and became more careful in taking action, even though his naivety still shows. He’s very skillful in using many kinds of weapons. He’s also a very talented horse rider. Mahmut’s specialty that gave him his title is falconry. He directs a tame golden eagle, Iskender, to a deadly effect. He can command a huge flock of birds with specialized bait and other methods.

As always all the blue and green lines are just construction lines and will be erased later so do not push on your pencil too much ^_^ I will try to be super efficient with the text so will only describe steps that require some explanation.
Make sure to leave enough free space on paper for next steps. You can see how much space you will need from the size of the paper on this picture.

Step 9
Lighten all the construction lines by “stamping” the kneaded eraser on the paper. Make sure to refer to the picture bellow as you need to ink only some parts of the construction lines.
Step 10
Wait till the ink is nice and dry and erase all the construction lines.
Step 11
To add colors, make sure to sketch the color outlines with the right color or pencil first.
If your goal is to become a real Mangaka and design your own manga characters make sure to try to draw Tughril Mahmut from memory several times. Always compare the drawing to the original and correct any mistakes you see. Do this till you are happy with the result. It doesn’t have to look exactly the same, don’t sweat the details. The point is that you get the main shapes right and that it looks good. This is the best way to build a huge library of manga shapes in your memory that you can use to draw and design your own manga characters ^_-.
Draw with passion! ^_^
