Let’s learn how to draw Kamado Tanjirou from Kimetsu No Yaiba today!
Tanjiro Kamado ((竈門 炭治郎)Kamado Tanjirō) is the main protagonist of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba series. Kamado is the oldest son of a charcoal-seller. After an encounter with Giyu Tomioka, a demon slayer, Tanjiro is recruited by Giyu to also become a demon slayer. He joins the Demon Slayer Corps and hunts down the demon who murdered his family. Tanjiro goes on a quest to restore the humanity of his sister, Nezuko, who was turned into a demon by murderer of his family.
Tanjiro is a young man with rather tanned skin and an athletic physique. His black hair is ruffled, with burgundy tips, combed back to expose his forehead. Wide, dark red eyes have white pupils that appear lighter around the lower section of his irises. He has a scar on the top left of his forehead. His hands are visibly rougher for someone his age, as a result of his rigorous training. At the beginning, he wears a white robe and black pants with white bands looped around his calves. Over that is a checkered, black and sea-foam-green haori. He occasionally wears a turquoise scarf. He has a distinct pair of hanafuda (Japanese playing cards) earrings, with the image of a white and red flower. His hair is kept tied back in small ponytail or bun, but later it is cut extremely short. After becoming a Demon Slayer, he wears the standard Demon Slayer uniform. It consists of a dark-brown gakuran jacket with a white belt, baggy pants that extend into tabi socks, all beneath his typical checkered haori. A pair of zōri sandals have red straps and bands of white cloth wrapped tightly around his calves.
Tanjiro has kind and caring nature. He is very protective of his friends and even more so of his younger sister. Tanjiro has ability to empathize with anyone, even Demons. His courage to protect the weak commits him to face his enemy with respect and dignity. He exhibits a great deal of determination and will not give up once he has a goal to achieve. Even though he is relatively strong on his own, Tanjiro isn’t opposed to asking others for help when he needs it. However, despite his kind and understanding nature, Tanjiro does have a limit to his tolerance and has a distaste for rudeness and cowardice. But deep inside of him grows a fire of rage and vengeance.
Thanks a lot to Jordan Fernemont for request. ^_^
Step 1
As always all the blue and green lines are just construction lines and will be erased later so do not push on your pencil too much ^_^ I will try to be super efficient with the text so will only describe steps that require some explanation.
Make sure to leave enough free space on paper for next steps. You can see how much space you will need from the size of the paper on this picture.
Step 2
Step 3
Step 4
Step 5
Step 6
Step 7
Step 8
Step 9
Lighten all the construction lines by “stamping” the kneaded eraser on the paper. Make sure to refer to the picture bellow as you need to ink only some parts of the construction lines.
Step 10
Wait till the ink is nice and dry and erase all the construction lines.
Step 11
To add colors, make sure to sketch the color outlines with the right color or pencil first.
If your goal is to become a real Mangaka and design your own manga characters make sure to try to draw Kamado Tanjirou from memory several times. Always compare the drawing to the original and correct any mistakes you see. Do this till you are happy with the result. It doesn’t have to look exactly the same, don’t sweat the details. The point is that you get the main shapes right and that it looks good. This is the best way to build a huge library of manga shapes in your memory that you can use to draw and design your own manga characters ^_-.
Draw with passion! ^_^
